I love Phil ! He’s amazing and funny ! 74 and he’s still going ! He’s always so in love with archeology ! Mostly flint :) this was a good find ! Thank you to the people studying all of this and contributing to understanding our history. Hello from New Zealand
I find Phil's accent endlessly charming.
Love Phil Harding! One of the greatest archeologist 💖🥰
sounds like helen geek narrating
I've had my dna tested and I am genetically related to him. Fascinating.
Remarkable single shot. Going to walk the dog and think about it
❤so skilled, thanks
❤back again to watch this. Id love to try it, but i like having 10 digits!
The Beatles?
Outstanding!"
Is the audience unconscious 😂
Remember in the 60s they cemented stone henge after rearranging the stones...enquire for your self how they have destroyed your history..
Big road built through Sidbury thanks guys..
Great to see Mr Harding...he just lifts the whole conversation to another level...both in terms of substance..and spirit...wow!!!
Four obsevations: I) It informs me how the womans knife on Greenland was made: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ulu Today the ulu is sold in the store in steel - but without the handle, which originally must have been a piece of bone. II) The video informs about the crucial element: The HARD hammer and the SOFT hammer. It explains why this is probably a simultaneous invention and not at specific cultural thing. III) It explains where all the arrowheads came from: They are the waste product of axe-making. IV) Phils remark reminds me of a stone sculpturer, that stated that the statue was allready in the stone. A great piece of reconstructive archology!!!
To me the greatest mystery of Stonehenge is not why it was built or how was built even who built it, but why when it was built at roughly the same time as the pyramids and Babylon, is it so cruelly constructed. If people travelled around as much as was detailed in this video then people in those times must have travelled to places with more advanced building techniques, I really don't get it?
wow we need to see this video in its entirety
51:20 Ironic that "Windmill Hill" is now far too common, meaning landscapes full of giant, spinning eyesores supposedly saving the planet. They also ruin night skies and ambience with their red lights.
I'm a history buff. I always ooo and awe about what was done by the people using a certain artifact. Mr. Harding, a man who finds artifacts, has the same awe and questions I have. He's a wonderful person. I think his bubbling personality and sharp sense of humor are probably to thank for that. Every chance I get, I love watching Time Team and Tony, Mitch, Phil, and all the team members.
I think having a pint with Phil would be a phenomenal experience. Not only does does he seem like a genuinely good person, but the stories and knowledge he has in his head could keep you listening for days.
Woodworkers/woodartists believe they release the spirit of the art from wood too
You are a good teacher Phil! Nice to see how you make a flint tool.
I am struck how the Amesbury Archer, who obviously was cherished in his community, has had his humanity removed in the exhibition and turned into a collection of bones. I wish there was a way to show reverence for his personhood ❤
A lot of those flakes you knocked off appear to be useable as slicers or scrapers. I know how sharp flint can be, my grandmother had a large piece of flint for starting fires in our backyard fireplace. She had it most of her life. Growing up, she cooked over a wood-fired stove until she married my grandfather. She started the fires by hitting the flint with her Iron meat cleaver.. Sparks flew, and so did flakes of flint. We had to be careful picking up the flint flakes, sharp as glass!
This isn't archaeology; it's packing.
Great meet up and i dont want to pour rain on their parade but why do we think the archer "SLOWLY" walked his way across Europe? A friend of mine could walk 40 miles in a day easily! so the archer could have walked from the alps and back every year if he wanted to. Some of the theories that trip of their lips are laughable. He was "royalty"? please give me strength. Where was the crown?
risk assesment is to stop you learning
My dad was at this camp. He was arrested in the town by the local plod for being drunk and disorderly and spent the night in the cells.Dont know too much else, other than he liked a drink.found some rotting potatoes at the camp and asked at the cookhouse for some yeast, months later, a passable alcoholic was had by all, so he must have been there some time.
Phil Harding=Patron Saint of Shovel Bums!🇺🇲
I was impressed when Phil actually made the hand axe, but when he put it all back together, then revealed the hand axe from the shards, it was amazing. What a brilliant field archaeologist and flint knapper he is.
Excellent job of explaining the proper steps for success
For me, the most amazing part of these monuments is the fact that the people involved in the planning, designing and building had no written language. No one seems to talk about that. But just imagine how difficult it would be, to come up with a complex and complicated plan without being able to write it down and give to the workforce.
St.Phil=Patron saint of Shovel Bums!🇺🇲
Fascinating. Well done everyone.
Brilliant fascinating and informative
I am ayear late to this. I would listen to Phil talk about his passion for archaeology any day.
Absolutely brilliant ... fascinating ... rivetting
Thank you for putting new life in my sleeping brain. I am 83 and since my wife died some six years ago have been trying to get involved in subjects of interest. Time Team the latest for me not seeing it when broadcast first. Sciences engineering history , model aviation belonging to two clubs for this when time and energy allows between house work, DIY etc. Architecture was my living until retirement.
I am subed
Please please can i have one tusk
You sur are one of my favorite time teamers . You have a lovely, embrace and follow it, and 40-50 years later your voice still shows the passion of a man in love with his quest. Bravo!! Bravo!! Oh, BTW, I have a theme song for you, "Diggy Diggy Hole!" It's on RUclips.
Disc knife & potsherd
I could listen to anything Phil has to say and be transfixed.
A whacking great chunk of flint, it is.
Listening makes me want to fall asleep…the speaker could be a bit more dynamic rather than being so lethargic!!!
My ultimate dream job as a kid was archeologist :)
Same here
Thanks.
Could contain rolled up parchment/scroll, perhaps with legal papers or religious text.
I watched this just for Phil. Phil is a living legend and we miss you
Horrible cartoon of mindless adoration for metal objects. Really?
Music drowns out the spoken words. Pity.
